Christians are taught about heaven and hell from the time they are born. Most believers know they exist. Because they have a strong beliefs in heaven and hell, they make choices based on where they think they are heading. Here are life lessons that can be gleaned from heaven and hell.

Two Groups

Jesus has divided the world into two groups, believers and nonbelievers. Those who believe in Him will have eternal life in heaven while the nonbelievers will spend eternity in hell. Throughout the Bible, the two groups change names, but they are essentially believers and nonbelievers.

Commandments

God said in the Old Testament and Jesus said in the New Testament that they want followers who obey the commandments. They want their followers to listen to God’s word and do what is asked even if that might be difficult. Those who fail to keep the commandments will not have eternal life.

Least of My Brothers

Jesus told the apostles and disciples that what they do for the least of their brothers, they do for Him. Therefore, it is important to feed the hungry, open doors to the homeless, help the poor, visit prisoners, and heal the sick. Jesus will not know those who do not do for the least of His brothers.

Service

All disciples have to be willing to serve others. They shouldn’t want accolades, jewels, or riches. They should want to be the ones carrying the tray or feeding livestock. Those who are not willing to serve will not have the right mindset for heaven.

Sinners

We are all sinners. Whether we are church leaders or a parent. We have sinned. Jesus wants us to recognize our sins, like the tax collector, and accept Him as the way to repent those sins.

Listeners

Jesus does not want people to tell Him the truth. He wants us to listen to His truth. Be like Mary who sat at Jesus’ feet to listen to His words. These are believers.

Beatitudes

People who are destined for hell would not follow the beatitudes. Jesus called the poor in spirit, peacemakers, mourners, and others blessed. Those who don’t follow the beatitudes will not see eternal life.

Greed

People who are greedy and want more than God is willing to give will not see heaven. Jesus said it is easier for a camel to pass through an eye of the needle than for a rich man or a greedy person to get into the kingdom of God.

Compassion

Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He has compassion for all people. He expects us to have the same compassion for others. We must see Him in every person and love that person.

Light of the World

He charged us to be light for the world and salt for the Earth. We have to shine with the Holy Spirit to others and help them.

Spread the love
