Rooted and Built Up in Christ: Walking in Our New Creation Identity

Colossians 2:7 – “Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”

The choice to put on the new man is completely up to us. As believers, we must take captive every thought that does not align with the Holy Word of God. Scripture declares that we are new creations, washed clean by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and clothed in His perfect righteousness. The status that Jesus has given us is almost too good to be true, yet it is the very foundation of our faith.

The enemy—like a withering branch cut off from the Vine—works tirelessly to steal our identity. He desperately tries to convince us that we are undeserving of the privilege of being called children of God. But if our Heavenly Father paid the highest price for our freedom, we must be of great value to Him. God did not simply establish a religion with us—He created a new covenant, sealed with the blood of Jesus Christ.

We did not earn our salvation, yet God saw us in our fallen state, had mercy on us, and acted in phenomenal love and grace to redeem us. His epic rescue plan not only frees us from sin but makes us new creations, bestows upon us divine favor, crucifies our flesh, heals us, delivers us from fear, and makes us righteous, holy, and blameless forever.

Yet, many believers leave this incredible gift unopened. The enemy uses deception, performance-based thinking, and worldly reasoning to keep us from realizing our full potential as sons and daughters of the Most High God. Our failures do not determine our identity—God’s grace does. Even before we accepted Christ, our value was established by God, and through salvation, we are released from bondage and empowered to live in our true identity.

We are deeply rooted in Christ, drawing strength from the soil of eternity. Our identity and future are secure. As powerful new creations, we have been granted the righteousness, authority, and strength of Jesus Christ Himself. What often holds us back is our agreement with this truth. Accepting our Christ-given status as absolute truth anchors us in our transformation and crushes the works of darkness. Believing the truth of God’s Word propels us to walk in the Spirit, empowered by love and great hope.

Let’s choose to align our thoughts with God’s truth today. As we do, we will become more and more like Christ, reflecting His glory in all that we do. Hallelujah!

A Prayer of Thanksgiving and Boldness

Father, I am overwhelmed by Your amazing grace. You have completely freed me from sin and death. You have rooted and established me in the faith, and I will walk in boldness and confidence in the finished work of Jesus Christ in me—the hope of glory. I will demolish every pretension that stands against Your truth. I believe that everything You say in Your Word is absolute truth. Help me to understand Your precepts clearly so I can walk in great power and authority.

I am exceedingly grateful for Your Word. Thank You for rescuing me, making me a new creation, and declaring me righteous, holy, and blameless. I am forever thankful for my new identity in Christ. I love You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
