Getting people involved and sharing their time and talents often is a difficult task for pastors, church leaders, and even business owners. However, when people share their time and talent for others, it improves a negative situation, makes people feel good about themselves and increases revenues when done correctly. When you help others, you also are spreading the Gospel and becoming a missionary even if you don’t leave your neighborhood. Your parishioners and employees have a missionary mindset.
Missionary Mindset in Business
Christian business owners should not worry about starting a Bible study class for employees. If they truly follow God’s plan in their business, they should see this as a way to keep employees. Their employees’ spiritual lives are being fed. Company owners could offer incentives to attend the Bible study class. They could provide bonuses, extra time off or special discounts. They could ask the employees what incentive they want.
In addition to Bible study class, the company could ask employees to come together to help someone. For example, if an employee or employee’s family member has cancer or another illness, the company could ask employees to help that family. Besides collecting money, which would be helpful, the other employees could prepare meals for the family, offer to drive the kids to sports or music events, or run errands for the family. These would be spreading God’s Gospel. Jesus said, “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.”
Missionary Mindset in Churches
Churches list a number of ministries. Often, the same people work most of the ministries. To increase participation in church ministries, pastors can again provide incentives. Many people use the excuse that they don’t have time. For example, they are so busy with their families, they don’t have extra time to give to the church. Even not enough time to take care of their health.
This might lead them to tiredness and bad health and then they might look for a short and instant way of taking vitamin supplements to boost their health.
Pastors could give families back their time. “If you help with this ministry, we will help you with things you need.” Although pastors are running all over the place and have little time to give, there usually is someone available to help the family who is giving time to the church. Other incentives might include door prizes or food and drink. If people think they will have fun, they might be more willing to serve the church.
Besides incentives, churches could create a missionary mindset by adopting a sister church somewhere around the world or even in your city that is struggling. You would directly be spreading God’s word by teaching and helping this other church. Your people could serve in the other church. You could ask what services the church needs. Then, you would ask your congregation for help in those areas. Thus, you have taken on the “mission” of that other church.
Having a missionary mindset will help you grow in faith. You will meet new potential customers in a setting that isn’t sales. And, you will become happier.
