Isaiah 33:22 — Finding Freedom in the Finished Work of Christ

“For the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our Lawgiver, the Lord is our King; He will save us.” — Isaiah 33:22

The promise in Isaiah 33:22 offers us a vision of God’s complete authority over our lives—He is our Judge, our Lawgiver, and our King. This verse points us to Jesus Christ, who has given us the most comprehensive salvation possible, a gift that transforms every part of our lives.

In Christ, we are rescued from the depths of spiritual darkness and brought into His marvelous light. The miracle of salvation is that Jesus not only forgave our sins; He went further by taking our sin nature upon Himself, crucifying it on the cross, and completing the law on our behalf. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus restored to us a dignity and freedom similar to what Adam experienced before the fall, taking back what was once lost.

The Law and Our Fallen Nature

God, in His wisdom, gave us the law—not to condemn us, but to reflect the true condition of the human heart. The law acts as a mirror, revealing our need for rescue. In recognizing our inability to fulfill the law’s demands on our own, we see our need for a Savior. But God didn’t just leave us there; He enacted an extraordinary rescue plan, sending Jesus to stand trial for us. Unlike us, Jesus was fully competent and innocent, yet He willingly bore our guilt and shame.

Jesus: Our Fulfillment of the Law

Jesus Christ, King of Kings, became flesh and walked among us, remaining sinless in every way. He took on the penalty of sin so we might become new creations, clothed in His righteousness. His finished work allows us to stand before God holy, blameless, and without reproach. This transformation is not based on our ability to follow a set of rules or rituals, but on the completed work of Christ. Jesus fulfilled every requirement of the law, freeing us to walk in His Spirit.

Living in the Freedom of Salvation

Though the truth of our salvation is steadfast, we sometimes feel distant from God or struggle with doubt. These feelings stem from deception, the enemy’s attempt to hinder our confidence in Christ’s work. The spirit of religion tries to convince us that we’re not “good enough” or that we’re still enslaved by sin. But we are called to walk in the Spirit, living as new creations who are empowered by grace.

Our identity as obedient children of God is made possible through our new birth in Christ. We don’t need to feel it for it to be true. Truth transcends feelings, actions, and experiences. The reality is that we have been utterly saved, set free, and made righteous.

A Prayer of Gratitude

Father, I am grateful that You rescued me from the miry clay and set my feet upon the Rock, Jesus Christ. I’m thankful for Your love, grace, and mercy. I am saved, set free from the law of sin and death, and made a new creation. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Help me tear down every stronghold the enemy has built in my old mindset. I am free from the old ways and the spirit of religion. I know I am righteous, holy, and blameless. I will take every thought captive that opposes this truth and demolish it with Your Word. I am thankful, Father, and I love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Through Christ, we are empowered to live in the fullness of God’s promises. May this truth anchor you in His love and lead you to walk boldly in the freedom He has secured for you.
