Faith Provides a Beacon of Light During Uncertainty
Life is filled with numerous moments of uncertainty. We lack, fall sick, lose our loved ones, or get betrayed by the people we trust. Sometimes, we even doubt God’s existence, particularly when things seem to not go as planned. How quickly can we forget the plans that God has for believers as stipulated in Jeremiah 29:11?
The Christian life is a life of faith in God that serves as the beacon of light that guides us through the most tumultuous times. Let us see how faith can help us in times of emptiness, danger, unreliability, and unpredictability.
Sickness
God is powerful and knows we may drown in the seas of uncertainties. But to help us, He sent us the Holy Spirit to intercede for us and help us in every situation. We only need to have faith in Him. He healed the blind and the mute!
Paralysis, cancer, diabetes, and other medical conditions can all pass if only we trust in Him. It may feel like an uphill task to have faith during suffering. However, having faith in Him can overturn every situation, including life-threatening conditions.
12 Years of Bleeding
In Matthew 9:21, the woman who had bled for 12 years believed, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” She touched Jesus and got healed instantly. Jesus said that her faith had healed her. When Jesus saw the faith of the men who brought a paralyzed man to him, he healed the paralyzed man by simply telling him to get up and go home. No form of uncertainty can defeat a man with faith.
Lack
We may lose jobs or lack money to cater to our basic needs and care for our families.
Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah trusted in God and had faith that they would still be healthy even if they had vegetables at the expense of the unclean meat offered to them. Their faith reaped big because they still looked healthy after days of not consuming meat.
In fact, they were healthier than all of King Nebuchadnezzar’s servants. God kept them healthy because they had faith in Him.
When faced with the problem of feeding 5,000 people, Jesus prayed and trusted in God’s provision, and indeed, everyone got something to eat plus a surplus to carry home. This is a true indication that faith is all we need to navigate uncertainty.
Children
For some of us who want children but can’t get them, we may learn a lot from Abraham’s faith.
Abraham, the “father of faith,” had no child. He was getting old but still trusted God’s promise that He would make him the father of all nations. And true to God’s promise, Isaac, David, and Jesus came from Abraham’s lineage.
There are many other cases like this in the Bible. Rachel, in Genesis 30:22-24, gave birth to Joseph, while Hannah bore Prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 1:20) after many years of barrenness and distress.
Death
Not even death can scare a strong believer. The sovereign God listens to us, so even when we are in danger of death, He is there to protect us or be with us until the very last minute.
Daniel’s Faith Against the Lions
Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den, and his faith protected him. The lions never harmed this true servant of God. Jesus raised many people from the dead, including Lazarus (John 11:38–44), a widow’s son (Luke 7:11–17), and a ruler’s daughter (Matt 9:23–25).
King Hezekiah Added 15 Years of Life
When King Hezekiah was told that he was about to die after being sick, he had faith that if he requested God for more time to live, he would be answered.
In 2 Kings 20:2-4 and Isaiah 38:2-4, he faced the walls and prayed,
“O Lord, I ask you from my heart to remember now how I have walked with You in truth and with a whole heart. I have done what is good in Your eyes.” And Hezekiah cried with a bitter cry.
Then the Word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying,
“Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘The Lord, the God of your father David, says, “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. See, I will add 15 years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria…’”
Ruler’s Daughter
A synagogue leader had faith that Jesus could raise her daughter, who had just died. If we look at the ruler’s faith, the way he told Jesus that his daughter only needs a touch from Him to live again, it’s true that faith is the beacon of light in uncertainty. Jesus raised the dead girl!
So whether we are dead spiritually or physically, God can counter death by allowing us to live again. Nothing is really impossible to Him.
Why Are You So Afraid? Do You Still Have No Faith?
Jesus wondered if His disciples had lost faith when the waters almost swamped their boat. Being afraid is not uncommon during uncertainty, not even among us Christians. But do you know that suspicion kills faith, and where there’s no faith, fear rules? Once faith leaves, we lose track of God.
Isaiah 41:13 says, “For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
Besides, why should we fear when we can’t fight for ourselves? In Deuteronomy 3:22, we learn, “You shall not fear them, for it is the LORD your God who fights for you.” Our faith in God ensures that fear can’t engulf us.
It ensures that God remains in our hearts and minds at all times. So avoid fear, for fear will destroy your faith in God.
According to Your Faith, Let It Be Done to You
We must believe that God is the supreme being, that He exists, and that He will fulfill all His promises. Every one of us must have faith in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We must first believe that God created Adam and Eve, all creatures, the sun, and everything in this world.
God sent His Son to die for our sins because he loves us so much. We must have faith that we are the children of God and that He can provide for us, heal us, and comfort us regardless of the weight of the uncertainty.
Reading the Bible and Praying
All Christians must make a habit of reading the Bible and praying without ceasing. Only through reading His Word and praying do we have faith and connect with the Almighty. According to Romans 10:17, faith comes by hearing God’s word. Also, Jesus reminded us several times that we should pray continuously.
From the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt to Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, the Bible is replete with narratives of faith that can always guide us. Faith is indeed the beacon of light when navigating uncertainty. Let’s have faith in the divinity of Jesus Christ.
